January - February 2017: Artist in Residence Sam Francis Gallery at Crossroads, Santa Monica, CA

The work was created for the Artist in Residence project at Crossroads School. The idea began simply with the idea of extending the perspective lines from my drawing into and throughout the gallery space. Perspective drawing is a rather basic concept for any art student, but the conceit of the project is that it is not my perspective. The choices and views selected are not my own. The perspective is not just the vanishing point perspective but also personal perspectives. Kids 2nd - 12 grades choose which points to pull the perspective lines, they choose the trajectory and then they pulled the lines. In a way it was about accepting others perspectives. I could not argue that a 2nd graders choice of perspective was incorrect because that was just how that 2nd grader saw it and decided. That child’s physical view is different, their life experiences informed them differently, etc.
